Old Rochester Regional School District and MA Superintendency Union #55 have appointed veteran school finance administrator Michael Perrone as interim assistant superintendent of Finance and Operations, effective Sept. 21.
The appointment was announced by Superintendent Michael S. Nelson, according to a community announcement. Perrone brings more than 20 years of experience in school finance and operations leadership in Massachusetts and other states, including recent service as acting superintendent and director of Business and Finance for Middleborough Public Schools.
At Middleborough, Perrone managed a budget exceeding $50 million while overseeing transportation, facilities, maintenance, procurement, capital projects and other support services. The announcement states that he also helped develop long-range capital and facilities plans and participated in collective bargaining efforts.
Perrone will join Old Rochester Regional School District and MA Superintendency Union #55 after holding a series of school business and finance leadership positions across New England and the Southeast.
Before his appointment, Perrone served as interim business manager for Hanover Public Schools, where he oversaw financial operations along with transportation, facilities, purchasing and food services.
Earlier in his career, he served as associate superintendent and chief financial officer for Polk County Public Schools in Florida. He also held chief financial officer positions with DeKalb County Public Schools in Georgia and Duval County Public Schools in Florida.
His Massachusetts experience includes serving as director of Finance for Barnstable Public Schools and as business manager and assistant treasurer for Silver Lake Regional School District. Perrone also worked as business manager for Thompson Public Schools in Connecticut.
Perrone holds a master's degree in public administration from the University of Hartford and is certified as a school business manager in Massachusetts and Connecticut.
"Michael has managed school finances and operations in districts of many different sizes, and that experience will be a tremendous asset to our school system," Superintendent Nelson said. "He understands the challenges schools face and knows how to work with school leaders and municipal partners to find practical solutions. We are excited to welcome him to our leadership team."
Perrone said he is looking forward to supporting the district and its communities in his new role.
