Abilene ISD will discuss the 2027-2028 school year calendar and the selection of a company for the facilities assessment at the upcoming workshop and regular meeting starting 5 p.m. Thursday in the boardroom at 241 Pine Street.
During the workshop, the School Board plans to discuss the 2026-2027 calendar development committee, which will include one employee from every elementary, middle and high school, as well as the executive director of athletics, fine arts, and the director for elementary and secondary.
The timeline for the upcoming year's calendar proposes the development committee, along with the district-wide consultation committee, will develop at least two draft calendars to be shared with AISD staff for feedback on Sept. 26.
The board plans to further discuss the calendar and feedback during the month of October with a goal to conduct a parent and community survey Nov. 2-6.
According to the proposed timeline, the calendar will be ready for the board to consider approving at the Dec. 7 AISD School Board meeting.
This month's meeting is slated to begin with a closed session where the board is to discuss matters relating to safety and security, real property, and employment contracts.
The meeting agenda also states that during the closed session, the board is to consult with legal counsel regarding pending or contemplated litigation.

The board will reconvene in open session beginning at 7 p.m. for superintendent and School Board announcements and an opportunity for public comment.
During the open meeting, the School Board plans to select a professional company to complete a facilities assessment as part of the district's routine facility evaluation process held every five years.
The district has received four professional proposals, and during the meeting, the board will approve the bid rankings and authorize the superintendent to negotiate a contract with the highest-ranked bidder.
According to the district, they are also in the process of developing a Long-Range Facility Planning Committee that will aid in the study of district facilities, programs, enrollment and safety.
The board is also to consider approval of the appointment of members to the local school health advisory council, as well as the approval to sanction Taylor County 4-H as an approved AISD extracurricular.
The board will also consider approval to reauthorize the superintendent's hiring authority for contractual personnel and to approve the 2026-2027 Professional Development Plan.
