Three men have been sentenced in the death of a 6-year-old Detroit boy who was hit by a stray bullet last year as he played in his house, officials said.
Terrance Jaland Blue, 28, Deonate Cornealous Cherry, 28, and Demontrel Benard Wilson, 30, learned their fates Wednesday in Wayne County Circuit Court, the county prosecutor's office said.
A judge gave Blue life in prison without parole for first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, according to authorities. He was also sentenced to 29.6 to 70 years for discharging a weapon from a moving vehicle causing death and conspiracy to discharge a firearms from a vehicle causing death. The defendant was also given 47 months to 7.5 years for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
The judge handed Cherry a sentence of 20 to 40 years in prison for second-degree murder under a plea agreement, officials said.
Meanwhile, Wilson was sentenced to 39 to 70 years for second-degree murder and 30 months to 7.5 years for being a felon in possession of a firearm, they said.
"Rylee Love was the ultimate innocent victim," Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said in a statement. "The alleged actions of these defendants directly caused his senseless death. I have said many times that bullets have no eyes or sense of direction. The bullets in this case struck a child playing in his house and he will not see another day."
William Noakes, Blue's attorney, said that both he and his client regret Rylee's death.
"Nevertheless, Mr. Blue will continue to maintain his innocence in this case," the attorney said. "I will do all I can to show that the jury verdict was wrong. I am convinced that the Court of Appeals, once it sees what occurred in the case, will overturn the verdict and send the case back to the trial court for a retrial."
Attorneys for the two other defendants were not immediately available for comment on Thursday.
Authorities alleged on July 27, 2025, the three fired handguns multiple times from a vehicle into a group of people standing near the intersection of Anglin Street and Stender Avenue near McNichols Road and Jos Campau Avenue on Detroit's east side.
Police were flagged down by a group to a home in the 17400 block of Anglin, officials said. The group told them a child had been shot.
Officers located found a 6-year-old boy, later identified as Rylee Love, in a bedroom with a wound to his head, authorities said. He was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.
Investigators later determined stray bullets entered the boy's home, striking him as he played.
They also developed the defendants as their suspects and arrested them days later.
In August 2025, the prosecutor's office charged the three men with conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, first-degree murder, conspiracy to discharge firearms from a vehicle causing death, and weapons-discharging firearms from a vehicle causing death.
In July, Cherry pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for his role in the boy's death.
Last month, a jury found both Blue and Wilson guilty of charges in the case. Both faced up to life in prison.
The case concluded the week after a Detroit woman was charged for allegedly shooting and wounding her 13-year-old sister at their home.
Last month, a 10-year-old boy and three adults were wounded in a drive-by shooting on Detroit's east side.
In July, a 5-year-old was shot in the arm while riding his bike on the city's west side.
