Labor Day is the last day beaches will officially be open for the season.

People have been coming to North Avenue Beach since early Monday morning to enjoy what's left of summer.

Labor Day marks the unofficial end to the summer. People flocked to North Avenue Beach to soak up some sun.

Benjamin Ortiz organized a game of frisbee with his group of friends.

"Spending our Labor Day, we're going to start off with the beach , some frisbee activity, maybe some football, some swimming maybe, and then we're going to hit it off with some burgers at some place," Ortiz said.

"The weather is not too hot ,not too cold," Jazzy Orloff, playing frisbee at North Avenue Beach. "I definitely say come down to the beach , head down for a nice BBQ."

Michael Holman traveled to Chicago from California for a wedding this holiday weekend. He took an early morning dip in the water before plans with his family.

"The water is awesome," Holman said. "I live right on the coast in California so I swim in the ocean all the time. But this is totally cool, totally different, totally clean. And its like 73 degrees, so perfect."

The swim season at Chicago's beaches will wrap up by 7 tonight, meaning lifeguards will no longer be on duty.

The Chicago Park District's outdoor pools will also close for the season.

Corey Flood and Karla Delangel brought their children to North Avenue Beach to play in the sand and soak up the sun.

"Supper chill plans. It's us, our family," Delangel said. "We're just going to hangout at the beach. It's the last nice weekend maybe that we can enjoy the beach. So we're excited to be here."

As far as Chicago Park District indoor pools they will open Tuesday. The park district said splash pads will remain open until the end of September for remaining hot days.

Communities across the area also marked Labor Day with parades.

A cherished Labor Day tradition returns to Chicago's North Side as the Wellington-Oakdale Old Glory Marching Society, lovingly known as WOOGMS, stepped off Monday morning.

The do-it-yourself parade encourages everyone to become a marcher, not just a spectator.

This year's parade began at 11 a.m. at the corner of Wellington and Pine Grove. It ends just south of Oakdale.

It's the last day of Naperville's Last Fling event and this morning it kicks off with a Labor Day Parade.

The parade steped off at 10 a.m. from Naperville North High School.

People can expect to see all sorts of floats, driving through the city's downtown area.

As for the festival, it features music, food, and plenty of carnival rides.

The money raised from Last Fling goes back to the community and surrounding organizations.

In Schaumburg, the holiday celebration continues with a parade and one final day of Septemberfest.

The annual Labor Day parade steped off this morning at 10 a.m. Then later Monday night, E Street Band drummer Max Weinberg and his Jukebox will close out the festival with a performance at 7:30 a.m..

Lowell, Indiana held its 107th annual Labor Day Parade, beginning at 10 a.m. at Commercial Avenue and Deanna Drive.
