SCHENECTADY - Police took a person into custody late Thursday afternoon at Ellis Hospital.

A law enforcement official said the individual had two knives and was in emotional distress. Patrol officers took the individual into custody.

An alert sent to hospital staff sparked fears of a shooter on the campus, but a spokesman for the hospital said there was no broader violence.

Police remained at the hospital at 11 a.m.
