Recently, passengers on a Porter Airlines flight were forced to return to the terminal after the flight was canceled for an unusual reason. In their latest statement, the airline confirmed that they were prompted to cancel the flight because a child refused to fasten their seatbelt after several attempts by the crew and their parent.
According to a People Magazine report, Porter Airlines flight PD444 was headed to Toronto from British Columbia. Still, it was canceled after a child refused to sit in their seat and secure their seatbelt. The flight was almost on the runway, all ready to take off from the Victoria International Airport, but had to turn back to the terminal.
In the statement, the airline revealed, "After the aircraft left the terminal and proceeded to the runway for departure, a young child was standing in their seat and would not secure their seatbelt. Attempts by the accompanying parent and crew to address this were unsuccessful."
The child's behavior created an "unsafe condition" for the other passengers. This led the crew to "disembark" the passengers. The family in question was deplaned, but it was already 12.30 AM, the time when the airport's runway closed. Following the incident, the airline had to "refile flight plans," and the flight was ultimately canceled, with the trip shifted to the next day.
The spokesperson added, "I can confirm that on August 06, Porter Airlines flight PD444 to Toronto was delayed and subsequently canceled after it was unable to depart before YYJ's scheduled airfield closure."
The airline also issued an apology to the other passengers because of how they were affected. It was later revealed on the FlightAware website that the flight departed British Columbia on Friday at 10.49 AM and arrived in Toronto on Saturday at 6.16 AM.
